Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program

The Gloucester Housing Authority (GHA) is currently authorized to assist 638 households on the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program.

Households admitted to this program must locate a unit in the private housing market that meets HUD rent and Housing Quality Standards (HQS) requirements. The GHA will then enter into a one-year Housing Assistance Payment Contract with their landord. Households pay a monthly rent equal to 30% - 40% of their adjusted monthly gross income and the GHA pays the balance of the contract rent directly to the landlord.

The GHA also has eight project-based units at Pond View Village.

Program participants may also be eligible for GHA's Family Self-sufficiency (FSS) and Section 8 Homeownership Options.

Eligibility is based on income and other program requirements. Applications are available through the MassNAHRO Section 8 Centralized Waiting List.

Preferences are available to qualified displaced households, victims of domestic violence and persons who currently work or reside in Gloucester.
